PHILOSOPHY

Being an outstanding educator has many attributes.  How those attributes are prioritized and utilized is what makes one stand out from the rest.  The most important attributes of an outstanding educator are patience, flexibility and being a good listener.  These attributes are important not only with the students but with peers and parents alike.  Patience promotes a sense of willingness to help and understand someone.  Being a good listener develops an effective communication relationship between students and teacher.  Students spend most of the day listening to the teachers as they teach.  Therefore, it is important that educators have good listening skills as it models the respect and attention educators want from their students.  Student’s learning and abilities are very unpredictable, for this reason it is essential that teachers have the ability to be flexible.  Flexibility helps the teacher tackle the day-to-day interruptions to keep control of their classroom management.  It also helps the teacher navigate the different learning abilities and needs students may have.

As an educator it is important to effectively and efficiently administer and manage the resources and classroom environment so that all students get the best education and in turn increase the standards of all students.  An outstanding educator will build a classroom community where diversity is embraced to promote a sense of belonging. People feel the need to be included.  Creating an environment that would facilitate this will be beneficial for the student’s learning.  It gives students of all types of learning styles and abilities a chance to interact with each other and create relationships.  Being an educator is a challenging career.  An outstanding educator can overcome the challenges if the focus remains on helping the students reach their educational goals.
